One of my friends sells knock-off bags. She rents a booth in this exclusive hair salon in Rye, NY. Every now and then she talks me into bying a bag. I never did find out her cost, but she sells them from $100- $150. I never paid more than $40. They are in my closet with broken straps the total of 3 in 5 years.
When the feast of San Gennaro in The Village and Little Italy takes place, I always make it a day of it. I re-visit China Town, and I am acosted with pictures of these knock-off bags ( it is illegal to buy or cell in NYC) they usually take you through a hidden closet, they open these enormous drawers and violá designer’s bags galore.
I usually fall in love with the garments, the slippers and the paper lantern.
I stop for lunch in Little Italy at one of the sidewalk cafes. Some have casual and some have formal menus.
As a vegetarian, I basically eat pasta, pizza or their famous pasta and faggioli or the minestroni soup. I usually keep tab, next time will always try something new.
All in all it is a beautiful experience. I never tell my friend I was in one of those knock-off closets. I go there just to experience the adventure of lower Manhattan for the day.
I’d love to do this!

Wow…those photos reminds me of being in the street markets of Hong Kong (well, not the Little Italy photo…LOL!) — all the knock-off bags and other clothing! Thanks for sharing these; I feel like I’ve been there now and don’t have to go myself. 😀
